Most betting affiliate programs will pay you twice: once for the players you send, and again — a little — for the affiliates you send. That second stream is the sub-affiliate program, also called a two-tier, referral or master-affiliate program. It is genuinely passive once the network exists, it is genuinely small per person, and it is widely misunderstood. This guide explains how the override is calculated, which programs pay what, what a network realistically produces and the rules that get overrides cancelled.

How a sub-affiliate program works

Every program that offers it gives you two links:

  1. Your player link — sends bettors to the bookmaker. You earn RevShare, CPA or Hybrid on them.
  2. Your affiliate (recruitment) link — sends other affiliates to the program's signup page. Anyone who registers through it becomes your sub-affiliate.

From then on, the operator pays you an override: a percentage tied to what your sub-affiliates earn or generate. Three details matter:

  • The sub-affiliate is not paid less. The override is an extra cost the operator accepts to grow its network. Your recruits earn their full rate.
  • It is usually lifetime for as long as both accounts are active and in good standing, though some terms allow caps or time limits.
  • The base varies. Some programs pay a percentage of the sub-affiliate's *commission* (5% of what they earn); others pay a percentage of the *revenue* they generate for the operator (2% of NGR). The second base is much larger, so a "2% of revenue" deal can be worth more than a "5% of commission" deal. Read the exact wording.
Example: your sub-affiliate earns $2,000 in RevShare this month at a program paying 5% of commission. Your override is $100. If the program instead pays 2% of the NGR their players generated (say $6,600 of NGR at a 30% rate), your override is $132.

Which programs pay what

Rates from the program pages and terms we track. "Reported" means the figure comes from affiliate FAQs, mirrors or directories rather than the affiliate agreement itself.

Two cautions. First, 22Bet, Mostbet, SpinBetter, WinWin, BetOnGame and FairPari rates are reported by third parties; confirm with your manager before you build a recruitment plan around them. Second, Dafabet's 3% is explicitly on *net revenue* rather than commission, which — as the example above showed — can be worth more than a 5%-of-commission deal elsewhere.

What a network realistically earns

The override is a small percentage of a number that is itself a percentage of player losses, so the income only becomes meaningful with a sizeable, productive network. A few scenarios using a 5%-of-commission program:

Sub-affiliates activeTheir average monthly commissionYour monthly override at 5%At 3%At 2%
3$500$75$45$30
10$1,000$500$300$200
25$1,500$1,875$1,125$750
50$2,000$5,000$3,000$2,000

The sub-affiliate calculator lets you model your own network size, activity rate and program rate. Two realities the table hides:

  • Most recruits never earn. In reported networks, only 20–40% of signed-up sub-affiliates become active. To have 10 productive sub-affiliates you may need to recruit 30–50.
  • Their income takes months to build, exactly as yours did (How Much Do Betting Affiliates Really Earn? shows the typical curve), so your override curve lags theirs.

Treated as a bonus on top of a healthy direct business, sub-affiliate income is worth setting up on day one at any program that offers it. Treated as the main plan, it disappoints almost everyone.

Every program handles this slightly differently, but the pattern is the same:

  1. Find the referral or "sub-affiliates" section of the dashboard. At 1xPartners and Melbet it sits under a referral tab; at 1win, Megapari and 4rabet it is a separate menu item with its own statistics.
  2. Copy the affiliate registration link, not your player link. They go to different signup forms, and a would-be affiliate who registers as a player earns you nothing.
  3. Add the link where affiliates, not bettors, will see it — your channel's pinned "work with me" post, a page on your site, the description of videos about affiliate marketing, replies to people asking how you get paid.
  4. Check the sub-affiliate report monthly. It shows who registered, who is active and what your override earned. Inactive recruits are a prompt to reach out, not a lost cause.
  5. Confirm the rate and base in writing with your manager, exactly as you would for your own RevShare, especially where the figure is reported rather than published.

Who makes good sub-affiliates

The affiliates worth recruiting already have an audience and lack a program, not the other way round:

  • Telegram and WhatsApp tipsters running channels without affiliate links, or promoting a single brand badly.
  • YouTube and TikTok creators in betting, football or cricket who mention bookmakers but do not track referrals.
  • Local website owners — football news sites, match-prediction blogs, fantasy communities.
  • Betting shop agents and offline operators in markets where the program allows them (1xPartners explicitly invites offline betting-shop partners in some regions).
  • Your own audience's most engaged members, who often become small affiliates themselves.

The pitch that works is not "earn 5% from others" — it is "here is a program that pays weekly, converts in our country and I will show you how to set it up". You are offering onboarding, and the override is your fee for it.

A simple onboarding kit

The difference between a network where 10% of recruits become active and one where 40% do is almost entirely onboarding. A kit that takes an afternoon to build:

  • A one-page setup guide in your local language: how to register, complete KYC, create a tracking link, find creatives, read the dashboard. Screenshots help more than text.
  • The program's real terms in plain words: RevShare floor, minimum payout, the four-new-users or active-player rule, negative carryover. Recruits who understand the rules do not quit after a rolled-over first payout. Our program pages and Betting Affiliate Payments Explained can be shared as they are.
  • Three proven post formats from your own channel — a match-day tip with the link, a payout proof, an honest brand comparison — that a beginner can copy.
  • A private group (Telegram or WhatsApp) where recruits can ask questions and where you post program updates. Monthly activity in this group is the best predictor of override income.
  • Realistic expectations: first depositors in weeks, meaningful income in months. Over-promising produces churn and, worse, breaches the misleading-claims rules below.

Direct income or network income: where to spend your time

An hour spent on your own channel earns your full RevShare on the players it produces; an hour spent recruiting earns 2–5% of what the recruit eventually produces. Early on, your own traffic wins by a wide margin. The calculation changes once your direct channel is mature and each additional hour there earns less — that is when recruiting and onboarding become the best use of time. A practical split many established affiliates use is 80% direct / 20% network until the network produces at least a fifth of total income.

How to recruit without breaking the rules

Sub-affiliate terms are stricter than they look. Behaviours that reliably get overrides cancelled:

  1. Self-referral — creating a second account under your own link. Detected by KYC, payment details and IP, and usually results in both accounts being closed.
  2. Incentivised signups — paying people or promising bonuses to register as affiliates. Prohibited in most agreements.
  3. Misleading income claims — "guaranteed" earnings screenshots. Besides being dishonest, they breach advertising rules at every program we track.
  4. Recruiting prohibited traffic — if your sub-affiliate runs brand-bidding ads, spam or bot traffic, the program can remove your override alongside their commission. Vet who you recruit.
  5. Cross-program poaching — some agreements forbid using one program's affiliate contacts to recruit for another.

What works and is allowed: a short onboarding guide, a private group where your sub-affiliates can ask questions, sharing your own creatives and landing pages, and honest expectations about the first months. Affiliates who feel supported stay active, and active sub-affiliates are the only ones who pay you.

Sub-affiliate income and program risk

Your override lives inside the same account as your player commission, so it is exposed to the same program risk: payout holds, negative carryover on your own balance, and account closures. Diversify recruitment across two or three programs rather than building a 50-person network inside one program whose terms allow a 90-day verification freeze. Betting Affiliate Payments Explained covers the payout rules that apply to overrides too.

Also read the fine print on the base and duration. A program that pays 5% for the first 12 months only is worth less than one paying 3% for life if your recruits are productive.

Bottom line

A sub-affiliate program is a free option: set it up at every program you already promote, mention it in your communities, and onboard people properly. Expect it to add 5–15% to a mature affiliate business rather than replace it. If recruiting is your real strength, prioritise the 5% programs — 1win, Megapari and 4rabet — or Dafabet's revenue-based 3%, and run the numbers in the calculator before you promise anyone anything.
